90 Matches in IPL 4 - WTF
The addition of two more teams will mean 14 more matches per franchise which increases the overall tally of home-and-away games from 49 to 81.
Add to it the knock out games and the IPL is likely to see a whopping 90-odd matches from 2011 onwards.
The IPL stands to face the risk of having to play three matches per day which in turn will see the games beginning at noon and going on till 11 in the night.
As it is, those in the television industry agree that matches played at 4 pm in the first two years of IPL did not rake in the same TRPs as matches played at 8 pm, prime time. "Now, with matches beginning at noon, the TRPs are bound to dip further," says an industry expert.

Greedy Ravindra Jadeja Banned for IPL 3
India and Rajasthan Royals allrounder Ravindra Jadeja may have to miss this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) for violating the Code of Conduct.
According to well-placed sources, the IPL has suspended the Saurashtra cricketer for this season - as he was bargaining for more salary from various franchisees, without getting a clearance from the Royals for this season. Jadeja can now appeal against this decision.
Sources said that when the Royals signed up Jadeja for the inaugural season, he was an under-19 recruit and was inducted into the team through the 'draft system' for which he was paid the stipulated Rs 20 lakh. In the second season, when the franchise got the opportunity to sign Jadeja for two years, he was reluctant to sign on the dotted line and only agreed to play for the Royals for a year.
After his contract with the Shane Warne-led team ended on December 31, 2009, Jadeja started looking for a better bargain. Rules say that he can talk to other teams only if Royals - who have the first right to refusal - agree to let him go

Taliban threat IPL Season 3
The Federation of International Cricketer's Association (FICA) once again raised the issue of security during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL). FICA president Tim May, a former Aussie cricketer, told TOI on Saturday that foreign players urgently needed information on security arrangements during IPL because independent Australian security experts have told FICA that the T20 event faces threat from terror outfits, including Taliban.
"We have generic inputs from an independent security agency in Australia that Taliban, a couple of other right wing and terrorist groups could be a threat to the IPL and we are really concerned about it. IPL is a high profile sporting event and that is why we are asking the organisers to share the security arrangements of the tournament with us," May said.

SRK Challenges Shiv Sena Bollywood Style
Under attack from Shiv Sena for his remarks on the IPL fiasco, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, on Tuesday, said he was not apologetic for favoring the inclusion of Pakistani players and termed the activities of the party as "undemocratic".
Standing by his comments, Shah Rukh asserted he believed that every Indian would agree that India is a "good country" and that "everyone is welcome as a guest", but at the same time said too much importance was being attached to the words of "just an actor".
"It makes me feel that activities like this are unhealthy, undemocratic, its insensitive but this is the world is and you can only say what you believe in and stand by it and hopefully I will have the strength to do so," Khan told reporters when asked about the Shiv Sena protests back home.

Mohammad Azharuddin Supports Pakistani Players
Congress MP and former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin on Monday batted for the inclusion of Pakistani cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying the best players should take part in the tournament irrespective of their nationality.
"In a tournament like IPL, the best players should play irrespective of whether they come from Australia, India or any other country," Azharuddin said.
But he hastened to add that he was not speaking as a Congress MP. "But I think this shouldn't have happened. Everybody should have got a chance," he said, referring the refusal of IPL teams to rope in Pakistani players.

Chidambaram slams Shiv Sena threats
Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday guaranteed "full security" to Australian and Pakistani players in India following the Shiv Sena's threats to them.
"Let Australian players come to India. Let Pakistani players come to India. Let them play in Mumbai and I will guarantee them full security," Chidambaram said.
The assurance follows the Sena's threat that it would not allow Australian players to play in IPL matches after the spate of attacks on Indians in that country.

Imran Khan roars at Lalit Modi
Legendary fast bowler Imran Khan said that Pakistani players had suffered "insulting treatment" at the hands of the Indian Premier League, and no player should take part in the tournament.
Eleven top Pakistani cricketers were up for grabs at the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in mid-January but none were picked, sparking outrage in Pakistan and accusations against arch-rival India of political meddling.
"IPL did injustice to Pakistani players - in fact it was insulting treatment meted out to players who are world champions, and we should never send our players to the league," said Khan, a former captain turned politician.
"Pakistani cricketers are the best in the world and the PCB should protest this with the Indian Board and boycott the IPL," he said.
"They totally disrespected the Pakistani players. If they had security problems they should have dealt with them before the auction."

Shiv Sena threats King Khan
Shiv Sena today attacked Shah Rukh Khan for lamenting exclusion of Pakistani players from IPL and dared him to take the players in his team Kolkata Knight Riders.
"If Shah Rukh wants Pakistani players to play here, he should go to Karachi and Islamabad to play with them... If he includes Pakistani players in his team, he should be aware of the consequences," Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut told reporters here.
Reacting to the non-selection of Pakistani players in the IPL auction, Bollywood star and co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders Shah Rukh Khan had recently said that they (Pakistani players) should have been welcomed.

Too bad for Pakistani Players - Amitabh Bachchan
Ignored by the Indian Premier League franchisees, Pakistani Cricketers on Thursday found support from Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, who lamented the snub and said it should not have happened.
Asked if he felt that it was unfair to leave out the Pakistani players from the IPL, the actor said, "
Bachchan said he favoured cultural exchange between the neighbours.
"
At some stage, you do feel so. There are people who admire them and they have so many good players. This should not have happened."
Bachchan said he favoured cultural exchange between the neighbours.
"
It's (IPL) is a business and is privately run. But I myself is part of a campaign which is trying to have exchange of things like culture and sport," he said.
Deccan Chargers ditch Abdul Razzak
Earlier we had told you that the Deccan Chargers and KKR were interested in buying Abdul Razzak; now here is the latest.
Deccan Chargers on Thursday denied signing Pakistan's Abdul Razzak for the third season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying there was no slot available for an overseas player in their squad.
But the spotlight shifted to Kolkata with Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Sourav Ganguly asserting that his side was interested in roping in the all-rounder.
Razzak, however, insisted that both the teams have shown interest in him. Deccan Chargers team owner Venkatram Reddy denied reports that Razzak has been signed by his franchisee.
"We have not signed Abdul Razzak. We don't have any slots available," he said.

No Payment from KKR IPL Season 1 - Shoaib Akhtar
Controversial Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has confirmed that he had payment disputes with the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders, who are yet to clear his dues.
Responding to the reports that Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan-owned KKR have still not cleared his dues, Akhtar on Wednesday said it was true.
"Yes, it is a fact they have not paid me my dues as yet despite reminders," Akhtar said.
The fast bowler played for KKR in the inaugural edition of the cash-awash Twenty20 league and was one of the six Pakistani players, whose contracts were terminated after the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.

IPL Season 4 Latest Updates
Even as a diplomatic row continues to brew over the recent IPL auction, another auction - which will be a far bigger affair - is just a few months away.
With the BCCI committed to adding two new teams to the league and all current IPL players having served out their contracted period, the next auction, in July, promises to be the biggest trade fair in international cricket, with over 500 players expected to go under the hammer.
